Gilpin Mountain Kids, Early Learning Center

Our Mission

Gilpin Mountain Kids is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing exceptional care and early learning opportunities for children in our rural mountain community. We will be offering programs for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, with a focus on delivering quality education and sharing valuable resources with local families.

We do not have a definitive date of opening quite yet, but we are making progress towards that goal. 


- The 501(c)(3) application has been approved as of January 20, 2025. This is such a huge step in the process of opening the center. By obtaining this federal non-profit status, we are eligible for more public funding, which will help to keep costs affordable, while still being able to provide the highest quality care. 


- On November 12, 2024, the lease was approved for the location of the center at 10655 Highway 119 in Black Hawk, CO. We are vigilantly awaiting on the approval of the 501(c)(3) non-profit application to be processed by the IRS. 


- The generous start-up funding of $100,000 was also approved by the Board of County Commissioners on November 12, 2024. This will allow for the Mountain Kids Board of Directors to hire the Executive Director that will focus on the execution of starting operations. The funding will also as help perform needed maintenance on the building, and fund various regulatory requirements. 


We have hired our Executive Director who will start on June 16th, 2025. Congratulations to Amy Carr! Amy is a local resident in our community with vast experience in child care, including recently being Director of a child care center in Louisville, CO. She has her Master's degree in Leadership for Educational Organizations, and a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education Studies. Amy is a passionate advocate for children and families, and a dedicated community member. Welcome Amy!

We haven't made any firm decisions yet. Many of those types of decisions will be made the Executive Director. It will be their duty to hire the staff and advise the Board on decisions such as hours of operation.
